Before the holidays, we would like to remind you of the dangers that may await on the road.
The first and most common cause of injuries is pedestrian collisions. A pedestrian collision occurs when a driver, due to various factors, notices a person walking on the road too late. The main cause is poor visibility of the pedestrian. Almost 90% of pedestrian collisions happen during hours of darkness or in poor visibility conditions, when the driver sees the pedestrian at the last moment and does not have time to take appropriate action to avoid the collision. Snow, fog, rain, shadows from trees and bushes can make a pedestrian hard to see, even on a lit road.
Learn to observe the street and traffic, analyze potential dangers.
Think about why it is important to cross the road at a particular spot and how to do it more safely.
And never violate traffic rules.
Remember that it is in the pedestrian's best interest—even when using a crosswalk—to make their presence on the road visible, giving the driver time to slow down. The best aids in this are reflective elements, which may be standalone items—bracelets, pendants, stickers attached to clothing—or parts of special vests with reflective strips.
The second cause is violation of traffic rules, including by cyclists and motor vehicle operators.
Before the holidays, please review the traffic regulations.
Since November 15, 2014, the fine for driving a scooter or moped without a license ranges from 5,000 to 15,000 rubles. A license is issued upon passing a theoretical exam at the traffic police, and only from the age of 16. The violator’s vehicle is towed to an impound lot.
Cyclists are allowed to ride on public roads starting from the age of 14. Cyclists aged 7 to 14 are allowed to ride on sidewalks, pedestrian paths, bicycle paths, and combined pedestrian-bicycle paths, as well as within pedestrian zones. If it is necessary to cross a road, the cyclist must dismount and continue across as a pedestrian.
By following these simple rules, you will preserve your life and health for many years to come.
