ROAD SAFETY

Reminder for Schoolchildren

Every year in Russia, children become victims of road traffic accidents. Every day you go outside and become participants in road traffic. Very often, children violate traffic rules or do not know them at all. Let’s remember the main rules and not break them.

MAIN RULES OF SAFE BEHAVIOR ON THE ROAD
Never run out onto the road in front of an approaching vehicle. This is dangerous because the driver cannot stop the car immediately.
You must cross the road only at designated pedestrian crossings.
Step onto the roadway only after making sure there is no approaching traffic from the left and right.
When getting off a bus, do not run onto the road. Wait until the bus moves away, and only then, after making sure there are no cars, cross the road.
It is dangerous to ride on the roadway using skateboards or roller skates.
Do not run onto the road outside the pedestrian crossing zone; the driver does not expect pedestrians there and cannot stop the car instantly.
It is dangerous to play ball games or other games near the roadway; it is better to do this in the yard or on a playground.
Know how to use traffic lights.
Remember! Only strict compliance with traffic rules protects all of you from dangers on the road.

REMINDER
for parents when creating a safe route for schoolchildren

Dear parents! Help your child stay safe and healthy on the road.
This difficult task will be easier if you create family learning guides.
Together with your children, draw up a route map “Home - School - Home” with detailed descriptions of the characteristics of each road crossing and places requiring increased attention. Maps of other regular family routes (“Home - Music School,” “Home - Grandmother’s House,” etc.), as well as plans of the surroundings of your home and school with descriptions, may also be useful.

Reminder for parents
on teaching children traffic rules

Do not rush, cross the road at a measured pace. When stepping onto the roadway, stop talking – the child must get used to focusing while crossing the road.

Do not cross the road on a red or yellow traffic light signal, no matter how much you are in a hurry. Cross the road only at places marked with the “Pedestrian Crossing” sign. Always exit first from buses, trolleybuses, trams, and taxis. Otherwise, the child may fall or run onto the roadway.
Involve the child in observing the road situation, show them cars that are about to turn, are moving at high speed, etc.
Do not step out with the child from behind bushes or cars without first checking the road – this is a common mistake and should not be allowed for children to repeat.
Do not allow children to play near the road and on the roadway.

Reminder for parents
on traffic rules

Children need to be taught not only to follow traffic rules but also from an early age to observe and navigate their surroundings. It should be taken into account that the main way to form behavior skills is through observation and imitation of adults, primarily parents. Many parents, not realizing this, teach children wrong behavior by example.
When you are with a child on the roadway, do not rush; cross the road at a measured pace. Otherwise, you will teach them to rush where they need to observe and ensure safety.

Do not send a child to cross or run across the road ahead of you – by doing this, you teach them to cross the road without looking around. A small child must be firmly held by the hand and be ready to be restrained if they try to run away – this is a common cause of accidents.
Teach the child to look. The child must develop a firm habit: before taking the first step off the sidewalk, they turn their head and look in all directions. This must become automatic.
Teach the child to notice vehicles. Sometimes a child does not see a car or motorcycle from a distance. Teach them to look far ahead.
Teach the child to assess the speed and direction of a vehicle’s future movement. Teach them to determine which vehicle is going straight and which is preparing to turn.
Firmly learn yourself and teach the child that entering or exiting any vehicle is only allowed when it is stopped. Explain why it is forbidden to jump on or off a moving vehicle.
